No Reason for Tex to pack yet
As they continue to gauge potential interest in Mark Teixeira, the Braves remain hopeful that teams will begin to show greater interest as the trade deadline approaches.
Based on the responses they've received in the past couple of weeks, the Braves believe they may be better off keeping Teixeira for the remainder of the season and receiving compensation through the draft picks they'd gain if they were to lose him via free agency.
With this being said, the Braves aren't actively shopping Teixeira yet. If they go 5-1 coming out of the All-Star break against the Nationals and Marlins, they could go to Philadelphia next week in good position to make a run at the currently front-running Phillies.
In other words, even with the Mets making their recent surge, Braves general manager Frank Wren isn't waving the white flag yet.
Nor is Wren going to change his approach to the trade market because of Mike Hampton's latest injury setback. Having learned their lessons multiple times in the past, the Braves were just looking at Hampton as a potential added bonus. Thus they still don't see gaining another starting pitcher as their greatest need.
Wren's search for a power-hitting outfielder has him looking at players that would be around beyond this season. While Jason Bay and Xavier Nady fit that description, the Pirates are currently asking for too much in return.

I feel the Braves have the opportunity to win this division but only if they keep teixeira. If jeff steps it up, chipper and everyone else stays healthy, and our pitching is good, we will win it.

The Braves can kill two birds with one stone in moving Teixeira. First of all, seeing as how Tex's agent is Scott Boras, I don't see the Braves resigning him. Boras knows the league wants Tex's bat and Tex would easily find a new home this offseason. That would leave them without a solid first baseman and still the same holes. Secondly, the Braves can find a power hitting outfielder with maybe a bit left on his contract so that the Braves don't have to worry about resigning the guy at the end of the year. I say if the Braves want a chance, they need to move Teixeira, bring up Jason Heyward, whom they have been grooming for first base, and acquire a decently powerful veteran outfielder. I don't think Tex to the Pirates is feasible, because the Bucs already have LaRoche. Wily Mo Pena seems like a better fit, as he can crank the ball and, as his scouting report reads, he must play every day to be effective. He is having a bit of an off year and maybe a move to Hotlanta will be enough to spark him.

heywards not ready for the majors u hayseed, he was just drafted, i agree they should move tex but dont kid yourself that heywards is a capable replacment this season, give him time to develop, he just came out of highschool, ive been saying tex to the angels has made sense since the beggining of the season if the braves are selling and if adenhart is available they should jump all over it

DARION, IN YOUR DREAMS.............. THE BRAVES SUCK. I CAN't BELIEVE U JUST POSTED SUCH BULL@##@. JEFF can't step on his own feet. YOUR pitching sucks. GO CAMPILLO GO. and if u were 100% healthy, u still have to contend with our little brothers, the METS. AND THE 8 other teams who are better than u. HAHA. HOW'S that feel.

The Angels could include Out. Gary Matthews Jr or Reggie Willets with 1B Kendry Morales & SP Nick Adenhardt to the Braves for Teixeira and a lefty out of the bullpen. Lets get it done!

ha goldglove i wouldn't be talking right now you suck just as much as we do and you can make babe ruth put you in first so quit talking about the past cause not many people care. I could talk about 14 straight banners but it doesn't matter right now at all. right now the mets own you.

And i thought we all agreed fighting on the internet about who is better is retarded. no one is gonna win so we can stop now bc its getting annoying. Go bak to pinstripe land and let others talk about their opinion since we all know what yours is

Keep Tex around for a while. Braves are 46-50............If they start to get some timely hits they are capable of going 44-22 over last 66 games............that would give them 90 wins and might be good enough for the playoffs............

i believe that if the braves do trade tex that there is not alot we can get in return i think that we should resign him even though scott boras is an *** **** we should trade some of our farm systems players for the likes of xavier nady or jason bay because face it or not, mark kotsay isnt the answer. I say we move blanco to center and trade kotsay to them in hopes of reaching an agreement.

Jl_garrett, I agree totally but the Braves probably won't even talk to Tex after the season,Because of one person.SCOTT ''MOTHER!@#$*&^'' Boras.Gosh i hate Boras

i dont care what frank wren says but the rebuilding stage is over. if we decide not to sign tex we at least should trade him for a good starting pitcher because charie and jo jo still need some time to improve. if they wait to offer him attribution or however u spell it then well just be a low 4th place team for the next 2 years, and i dont want that to happen@!!!!!!!!!!!

DARION- nobody owns the YANKS, kid. THE METS, MARLINS, AND PHILLY own u little squids. HAVE fun not making postseason AGAIN. Don't worry, maybe u guys can move to yet another city and have better luck. It must suck, year after year to have your season end in june. But I have to go because the YANKS are playing and our season is still going. If I waste my time with u, I might miss a 27th championship. Remember this- no matter if the Yanks end up in third place this year or we go back to postseason for the 14th consecutive year in a row, the yankees are 2years away from being a devistating dynasty again. By the way- your gonna have to explain to me what u mean by the yankees suck? If u mean this year, it's not over yet. If u mean the last 7 years than I guess 2 World series appearances and 7 straight postseason appearances does suck. And last- If u mean the Yankees suck in general, than I guess 26 championships stink. That's an average of 1 every 4 years since their existance. NOT BAD FOR A TEAM THAT SUCKS. ATLANA BRAVES = KANSASCITY ROYALS.

I'M DONE ARGUING, AND IT IS RETARTED. BUT U CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND STARTED WITH US YANKEE FANS, SO I DID IT BACK. NO BIG DEAL. Go back to doing the ATLANTA CHOP and leave the Yankee talk to us fans.

Wily Mo Pena as a viable hitting threat for the Braves? Who'se smoking what over in your balliwick? Pena is a poster child for useless encumbrances for any baseball team. He is a strikeout king personified, is a lousy clutch hitter and can't field worth a damn. He was a complete flop for the Red Sox and isn't jack for the Nationals. This guy should be running a farm back home and not be in any uniform of any kind in the Bigs. Anyone trying to make something out of this guy would be tantamount to trying to make a chateau briand steak out of horse flies.

Goldglove,
If you claim yourself a Yankee fan and think that Yankees have the HIGHEST payroll in baseball JUST TO GAIN AN ENTRY to postseason, you should really re think if you're a yankee fan at all...Yankee may have the most world series champ under their belt, but they're also the most inefficient baseball team in the recent history of baseball!!

Gold glove, what are you talking about? How are the yankees two years away from starting a dynasty when they only have two players in their starting lineup under 30. One of which sucks (Gardner) and the other one isnt that good (Cabrera). And the yankees will be without their best pitcher in two years anyways (Rivera). You have no idea what youre talking about. And be real for a second, do you really think that if by some slim chance the yankees make the playoffs that they can get by the first round with ponson and rasner starting.

Holy Smokes, I thought I was passionate about baseball. I guess I was wrong. I am a very large Braves fan but I'm still not going to get that protective over them. People in this forum are acting like their fathers and brothers play on the Braves and/or various other teams. I think everyone should step back, count to 10, and remember this is just a friendly game of baseball everyone is getting so upset about.
On another note, I think the Braves need to deal Tex. Even if they don't get much return for him it is still better than nothing. We probably need to open our eyes and realize that over the past 3 seasons we have been a 500 ball club. It's pretty unrealistic to think we will go 44-22 over the rest of the season. The Braves have alot of holes that need filled, dealing Tex could at least help will a couple of those holes.

The braves need to keep tex, because there is no real team that could use him. The best idea is to trade Brandon Jones and Brent Lillibridge for Jason Bay and Damaso Marte.

2 more homers for tex lol,but yeah a deal including Brandon Jones and possibly a few relief pitchers(jo jo,bennet,or ohman) would be in high interest for the pirates struggling bullpen and overall pitching, grabow and nady will likely come because in recent days every time bay is mentioned they throw nady in instead.the whole angels deal is a bust because they already have a great defensive 1st baseman which they do not want to trade or move to dh because of his defensive abilities. so since teixera heats up at the end of every year i think we need him to make a playoff run or just to have around a 90 win season. even if we dont make the playoffs or have a bad record there is still next year and hopefully the injuries that plague us will not be so harsh(moylan,smolts,glavine,diaz,etc.....................) and hopefully we will have tex for another 3 or 4 years to make a trip to the world series or just make the playoffs. another thing we need is not old but around 30 years of age starting pitching, livan hernandez's name has been tossed around alot i personally think he ould be a great pickup however im not sure wat we have to offer, that is just an idea.but we do need a pitcher that will throw strikes because we only have 2 dominant pitchers, jurrjens and hudson in my opininon campillo has alot of potential, but we need at least one more veteran pitch capable of getting us to the post season, the whole maddux thing is just a stupid idea we need to get younger not older. a possible trade for roy oswalt was tossed around but when he was injured it all stopped. so in my opininon the braves need a power outfielder, a veteran pitcher, and a good solid reliever.

Campillo has 2 GOOD starts then a HORRIBLE start,vice-versa.I agree with the whole blog.nice job.Your right,Jo-jo really needs to GO-GO.We could use Nady, but he couldn't help us as much as Bay.
Our rotation should be like this(next year):
1.Tim Hudson
2.Jair Jurrjens
3.Tom Glavine
4.Jorge Campillo
5.Charlie Morton.
Trade Rafael Soriano for a starting pitcher or a setup-guy
