Phils widening reliever net
A Phillies scout was spotted at Camden Yards Wednesday for the Orioles/Blue Jays game, on the day Toronto's A.J. Burnett allowed one run on six hits in five innings of a suspended game. The right-hander struck out seven and walked no one. Despite having already acquired Joe Blanton, the Phillies are still in the market for pitching, and still have the prospects Toronto had been scouting.
Looking deeper, the scout may stay in town Thursday too, where he can possibly get a look at lefty relievers Jesse Carlson and Brian Tallet, and Baltimore closer George Sherrill. All three are believed to be available.
Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi said he "didn't see A.J. going anywhere" before Burnett's previous outing, but couldn't say the same thing about some of his bullpen pieces.
With the prices for Colorado's Brian Fuentes and Pittsburgh John Grabow or Damaso Marte a bit much, Carlson and Tallet especially are worth watching.

Jesse Carlson has been having a good year. I know the Yankees don't need any relievers, but, hey...

After a long string of horribble offensive performances, I am beginning to wonder if the Phillies would not benefit more from another bat than a pitcher?

THE PHILLIES NEED TO MAKE A FEW MOVES. THEY NEED TO AQUIRE BURNETT TO ADD TO THE STARTING ROTATION, SHERRILL TO HELP OUT THE BULLPEN, AND ANOTHER BAT IN THE LINEUP THAT COULD HELP REDISCOVER THE PHILS HIGH POWERED OFFENSIVE THAT HAS DISAPPEARED IN THE LAST MONTH.

yea i agree it looks da jays arnt gonna make any moves. maybe da jays should trade some people to REBUILD cuz in a few years halladay can be a free agent. n da yankees r stupid for getting marte n Nady cuz dey r not even gonna make da PLAYOFFS!

The Phils also need to look for another bat...They need to try and go after somebody like Randy Winn who we wouldn't have to give up alot for.

the phils should have made a case to get casey blake, but too late for that. but i agree they should have gotten burnett over blanton but i got faith in joe. i really think the phils are gonna make another move before the deadline, hopefully not dealing marson. and if they dont you know that they'll sign some shakey guy off of waivers

artur roads shold just get traded to the phils thats a smart move will alsogive abanes and beltre 4 ryan howard and jamie moyer

the phils are not looking to deal either howard or moyer. howard has 30 homers, leading the mlb, and jaime moyer may be old but is still getting wins for the phillies. that would be a very very very stupid move

You don't trade your best hitter, Ryan Howard will not go anyware for the rest of the season.

howard isnt goin anywhere for a long time

ya ryan howard will stay with the phillies his whole carreer moyer is a great pitcher

no one said ryan would be a phillie his entire career but he will be there for at least 3 more seasons, you dont trade away your best hitter, who by the way was also rookie of the year in 05, nl mvp in 06, and the fastest player to hit 150 homers. now lets go to jaime, he is 9 and 6 with a 3.76 127 innings pitched and has 79 strike outs and how old is he, thats right he's 45 years old.
