Rays Looking West

Rays management has maintained its tight-lipped policy in regard to matters of potential trades, but that hasn't prevented other baseball sources from weighing in on what the Rays are mulling over to improve the team.
Two areas where the Rays might improve -- it's tough to find too many areas for improvement when the team is 23 games over .500 -- are a right-handed bat to play right field and relief help. The Rockies have both in the form of outfielder Matt Holliday and right-handed reliever Brian Fuentes.
A deal for Fuentes appears to have a lot better chance of happening than a deal for Holliday. According to two Major League sources, the Rockies would trade Holliday, but only for top prospect David Price. So I don't believe that will happen. Meanwhile, Fuentes can be had for less. One source said the Rockies are interested in Double-A Montgomery right-hander Wade Davis.

Fuentes would certainly help the Rays. And who wouldn't want Matt Holliday on their team? Apparently not the Rockies if they're seriously considering trading him. If they truly are, I'm sure they'll receive some generous offers prior to the trading deadline.

Although I think Holliday is a very good, he may be a typical "Rockies" hitter. His away avg. and power numbers are not great at all. They would have to give up quite a lot of prospects for a guy that my not be as great outside of CO. Just my thought.
