Teixeira trade talks revised
According to a National League source, Diamondback fans might not want to get too excited about the possibility of landing Mark Teixeira. This source believes the Yankees, Rays and Angels are more likely to land the switch-hitting first baseman before Thursday's Trade Deadline.
As mentioned earlier, Braves general manager Frank Wren spoke to approximately six teams on Monday about Teixeira. Because they would certainly have the funds to re-sign him on the free agent market, the Yankees might be willing to part with a higher caliber of talent.
The Diamondbacks still have the potential of providing a good fit for the Braves. But as long as they're offering Chad Tracy, instead of Connor Jackson, Wren seems more apt to look elsewhere.
Wren also seems willing to be patient until receiving the best available offer for Teixeira, whose career splits indicate he could make a difference for a legitimate playoff contender.
In the 54 games he played after being acquired by the Braves at last year's trade deadline, Teixeira hit .317 with 17 homers and 56 RBIs. His career statistics during the second half of the season include a .295 batting average and a .947 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage). <p>

OMG diamondbacks are outta of it now and with Owings performance tonight....
Maybe someone like Adrian Gonzalez even though he's on the Padres)but dont care bout tradin in own division) or even Justin Morneau(higher price but hes under contract and team control for a while)

Maybe even a long shot but Manny???

I think acturally now with Owings and Tracy for Texiera is not bad. mabye through in Leo Rosales.

I think the yanks will do something about it.
My trade:
Atlanta Melky, rasner, jiambi, matsui maybe even might through in posada
Yanks: Mcann, and tex

that is a great deal dunhamn

Good. Let him end up in the AL. Arizona is not a good fit for him. He's not enough of a 'game changer' or competitor to shell out prospects and a player for. I'll take Tracy against a RHP any day. Good luck in the AL Mark!

chava_15: The Braves are building for the future. They're going to keep Brian McCann because he's young and proven himself to be a far greater catcher than current backups Clint Sammons and Corky Miller. No reason to go after an injured [and old] Posada. Giambi? Not going to happen either. The Braves would probably be more willing to take their chances on [a young] Martin Prado.
Report any abuse or spam
well i think they will look into that alot if not mcann only tex or who ever they choose to
Report any abuse or spam
this is great for us Yankee fans. They will def make a big push for Teixeira now because of posada being out for the rest of the season. I deal could include Ian Kennedy, Melky Cabrera, top catching prospect Jesus montero and another pitching prospect, watch out for the yanks to be talking to the braves about this.

WOW it only took 10 comments but Brand1234 is the only smart one. A deal of Teixeira for Melky, Ian Kennedy and two prospects is very likely. The young catching/1b prospect Brand1234 mentioned isn't a type the Braves would be after.
It's very possible the Braves would package Will Ohman with Tex to get the third prospect to be more to their liking.
The Braves WILL NOT trade Brian McCann.
Report any abuse or spam
Chava_15: The moves made involving Smoltz and Glavine (and even Kotsay) were because Wren believed they were the pieces they needed to fill to contend this current season. After Atlanta's recent performance against the Philadelphia Phillies, who are currently fighting for the NL East division lead, Wren has realized that the playoffs might not even be within the scope of the Braves immediate future and is now shifting his focus into creating a younger team by recovering [the equivalence of] the young talent he traded away to Texas. That is why you have rumors regarding Teixeira being traded rather than kept and why current rumors surround young athletes like Connor Jackson and Max Scherzer.

Thanks bribriman11, ya youre right about montero, instead of him id offer pitching prospect Jeffrey Marquez. He's not having a great season but hes one of the yankees top pitching prospects. so i would say Ian kennedy, melky, Marquez and maybe a third basemen in Eric Duncan, or Marcus Vicchionnachi. Let's wait and see what happens.

if the braves are gonna trade Tex then they should go for Adrian Gonzalez or some 1 off the Yankees

why dont they trade that sucky Jeff francouer too ? he sucks and get some hitters not swingers .
Report any abuse or spam
Think about it, the yankees lost 12-4 today and 10-2 in the last game of the boston series. They really do need Teixeira. Jorge Posada is now out for the rest of the season. Melky cannot hit to save his life. Molina cant hit to save his life. you cant have damon as ur dh because he doesnt have a ton of power. Jeter isnt hitting. Arod isnt hitting with RISP. Giambi is slumping. Abreu isnt having that great of a season. You need a big bat and Tex is the best fit. He can play first base, giambi can DH. only problem is damon cannot play center everyday. they would need to work something out there.
Report any abuse or spam
this would be a decent trade : Tex and Jeff Francoeur to the yankees for Jason Giambi and Robinson Cano .But no the Braves have to go after rookies and all that kinda crap ,get some pitchers and hitters and the Braves might improve 1 day at a time .
Report any abuse or spam
tylercomer, why would the yankees trade cano? who do you think theyll replace him with? come on dude get real. And why in the world would want an overpaid Giambi who is at the end of his contract and slumping latley, he is also in his late 30's. Youre proposed trades are rediculously out of range.

thats true brand1234

the yankees will figure something out ,they got tons of money to get any 1

I guess no one besides Bran1234 knows anything about Atlanta. The Braves are the second youngest team in the National League. John Smoltz old? Yes he is but he is pretty damn good. The Braves will be in contention next year. They will have lots of money and still have a top 10 farm system. My guess is that they sign Derick Lowe.
Report any abuse or spam
to be honest i'd rather have Adrian Gonzalez for Tex and who ever else they would like to get . But the braves need pitching ,Jair Jurggens has been a good rookie this year why not try some 1 like 1 of the Yankees top prospects .And A-rod is not worth all that money that he is being paid ,he is definately OVERPAID .
Report any abuse or spam
I think Chava should be banned from posting lol. Worst trade proposal I've ever seen.
Yo Brandi nobody wants Eric Duncan anymore, he's a flop, Melky Cabrera will be a good career back up that's all, and Ian Kennedy is a #3 starter at best. No way do the Braves give up Teixera for that junk.
If the Yankees will need to give up some serious prospects to get Texiera. I mean the Yanks gave up their #3 prospect Jose Tabata, former #26 prospect Jeff Karstens, #14 Daniel McCutchen and their #9 prospect Ross Ohlendorf for a guy with a career OBP of .336 and a middle reliever.
Seriously the Yankees will have to give up Kennedy along with another pitching prospect like Alan Horne, Marquez, Brackman, Whelan, or Betances, another offensive prospect like Juan Miranda, and then someone else.
I can't see the Braves taking Marquez because he's only 18 and he is blocked by Brian McCann.

haha, thanks bribriman11, im a yankee fan but i know a ton about baseball. Theres no chance the braves will trade mcann, comeon. and Smoltz, hes a great pitcher who i wouldnt be surprised if eh comes back next season as there closer again. When hes healthy, he is one of the best pitchers in the majors.
Report any abuse or spam
youre wrong lsilverandblackl. Cabrera is a cheap player to have and hes a good outfielder. Theyd take him, and Kennedy, he needs to mature. You cant say hes a number 3 starter now. This was his first year in the opening day roster. Hes only 24 years old and will improve. give him time. and i agree with you on marquez, ehs having an aweful season. i would throw in Alan Horne in there with Juan miranda. They also have a young prospect by the name of Mark Melancon that the braves would want. a right handed reliver having a great season in double A with a 1.81 ERA. Also they could put in Marcos Vechionacci if they dont want to part with Juan Miranda.

In four or five years the Braves will have one of the best young outfields in baseball. Jordan Schafer, Jason Heyward, and either Brandon Jones or Gorkys Hernandez will light it up. The Braves need pitching, not Melky Cabrera or Eric Duncan.
Report any abuse or spam
Alright, yes they do need pitching. But you dont know if these guys you mentioned are going to be good.
Report any abuse or spam
The Braves need a CF for next season because Schafer isn't ready and while Gregor Blanco has done well so far this season he won't be handed the CF job. The Braves are always looking for depth.
The pitching prospects mentioned lsilverandblack would make senses. Kennedy, Melky and 2 prospects or perhaps only one prospect would get the trade done.
I don't think the Braves would be interested in Miranda either. Kennedy, Melky, and a pitching prospect would be what the Braves would be after.
Report any abuse or spam
I'm just saying the Yankees and their fans need to stop throwing in Melky Cabrera and Ian Kennedy into every trade proposal. The Yankees have one of the best farm systems in baseball believe it or not it's not limited to two guys. I agree with you Melancon is good, I forgot to mention him before, he's a great fit for Atlanta.
Here's what my proposal would look like:
Ian Kennedy
Mark Melancon
Juan Miranda
Either Chris Britton, Wilson Betemit, or Humberto Sanchez

trust me on Melky, they are going to need an outfielder next year. hes better than gregor blanco. Hell, hes just as good as Franceour this season. Theyll take melky too.

Explain to me how Melky Cabrera is better than Gregor Blanco, I just don;t see it.
You say the Braves need a center fielder but why is it that the Diamondbacks who are closer to getting Teixera aren't offering a major league ready center fielder.
Report any abuse or spam
The braves want pitching, i know that. but if the yankees just throw in melky to make the deal look better, the braves would take melky. He could be a backup outfielder or a starter if someone if underachieving or is hurt. Hed be a nice fit on the braves to come in late in the come as a defensive replacement.

i have no objection about Melky being better than Jeff Francoeur , i mean yeah Francoeur is a good fielder and hs 1 of the best arms out there but i'd trade him or teach him how to hit

Braves need a left fielder, not a center fielder. Even if Kotsay doesn't stick around with Atlanta next year, the Braves may make Brandon Jones a regular.
But yeah, the Braves are pretty stacked with young outfield guys. One name you forgot to mention - Josh Anderson.

How can people give up on Francouer so quickly the guy is 24 years old. He is a good fielder, great arm, and can hit for power. Give him a chance to work things out.
My theory with the Yankees is that although they wear there got Melky shirts all over the city they truly hate this guy. Why on earth would they throw him away so quickly? If he's so talented you would think they would keep him.

if the braves had Melky they could put him in Left field and and release Matt Diaz, that would be a great move for the braves but thats if they traded for him .

Texeira would be a perfect fit for the Yankees. They get him, Washburn or Brian Bannister and Gregg Zaun before Thursday's deadline and the Yanks become instant favorites to win the WS. Texeira is a hitting machine who is very likely the missing piece of the puzzle to make the Yankees a juggerneut.....But if Cashman allows the deadline to pass having acquired nothing more than Nady and Marte, they're dead in the water.

Tex is goin to end up in arizona, their gm is gonna get desperate and agree to trade jackson, because lets face it, the west sucks and tex would make a huge impact. and regarding the outfield, francoeur is gonna stay. he spent 3 days in the minors (that is no where near enough time to make a big impact), and he had to come back due to injuries. When it comes to jones, he might be on his way out because the braves are trying to get jason bay. i see the braves outfield at the end of the year as: CF-Kotsay or Blanco RF: Francouer LF:Jason Bay(i really do think wren can pull it off)
Report any abuse or spam
No way the Yankees can give up Melky Cabrera in any deal for Texeira. Melky's defense is too valuable and his hitting is far from terrible. Melky gets a lot of big hits and never clogs up the lineup. Xavier Nady was a mistake. He's a lox with no athletic ability. He's slow as molasses and he can't hit. This is the first year in an 8 year career that he's put up anything close to good numbers. They should have gotten Jason Bay instead of Nady.

Angels fan, as a braves fan I gotta say that I like what ive seen from Kotchman, and would be willing to trade Tex for him. He's a young guy who's pretty damn good, and he will be cheaper and hold down first for us for a few years. I don't know anything about Willits, but I'd like to see us get an above average pitching prospect and an above average outfield prospect packaged with Kotch to make the deal go down. To the yankees fans-- we'll definitely take Kennedy and Cabrera but we need someone to play 1st, so maybe our old buddy Betemit can take that spot and we'll also take a mid level SP prospect. So there you have it you guys get in touch with your GM's, I'll call Frankie and we can get one of these deals done ASAP.

I'm not sure why I read these blogs. I only get ticked hearing people rant about things they don't comprehend.
-Brandon Jones is having a horrible year in Richmond batting .250, 3hr - that is why Jones is not in left. The door is open for him, he just won't walk through it.
-The Braves won't land the likes of Kotchman - especially for a rental player to a team that is 12 games ahead in the AL west.
-Tex & Francouer for Cano & Giambi - c'mon - how in any way does that make sense?
Report any abuse or spam
The Angels & Arizona has better attractions to give the Braves but it will come down to the GM's is it worth mortgaging some of your future for a 2month rental? That is where the Yankees could come into play with Posada now out officially and Matsui Yankees need to replace that RH power and Texiera can provide that.
Yankees can offer Wilson Betemit,Ian Kennedy,HOrne,Alberto Gonzales as I feel Melky will be used in the trade for Washburn or Bannister which would make no sense at all.
with that trade Atlanta will have two promising pitchers who could eventually replace Mike Hampton & Tom Glavine when they come off the books. They get a short term replacement at 1B with Betemit and a solid backup infielder in Gonzales.

Here's the deal. If the Yankees are going to trade for Tex they are definitely going to have to give up some talent. Melky could definitely end up in this trade. Yes I know he hits like a 5th grader, but his defense is one of the better in the AL. Also included in this mess should be Either Rasner or Kennedy. Throw Sexson in for fun (plus there is no need for like 12 first basemen). Damon can play fulltime left field and throw Nady in center. And in response to Tylercomer91 you should really pay more attention to things before you post. Ohlendorf was included in the trade for Nady.
For this year the Yankees need to keep Giambi around. Yes he's in a slump now, but he always comes out of it. The Yankees need to consider the future and that Matsui has become injury plagued. He might be a possible dump into a trade as well.

Thank you ToddHalter, it is absolutely ridiculous how much money the Yankees have. After reading Moneyball I realized how pathetic teams like the Yankees are. They buy up whoever they can without proper research. Xavier Nady is a prime example of how dumb the Yankees are. Not to say Nady won't help the Yankees, I like him a lot, but giving up 4 prospects, 2 of whom are top 10 in the organization is so incredibly stupid.
Anyway I really don't see the Yankees beating out the Diamondbacks in the race for the Diamondbacks. The one thing the Braves need is pitching and that is the one thing the Yankees are afraid to part with. Lets face it the Diamondbacks have better young players than the Yankees do.

Brand this may becoming a little late but Arizona is more then willing to part with Michah Owings. He was offered to go to washington in the Rauch trade but instead they took Bonifacio.

First at all, McCann ain't going nowhere, especially to the Yankees. My prediction is that Teixeria will leave the Braves unfortunately because the Braves, sadly are not going to the playoffs. He's going to the Diamondbacks, Ohman is diffcult, either he's going to Detroit or Florida. In August, I wanna see Conor Jackson and Chad Qualls to the Braves.

Niether brandon jones nor melky cabrera will be playing in the outfield for the braves next year. in fact jones wont even be in the braves oganization. the pirates are asking for brandon jones, brent lillibridge and two class A level minor leagers in exchange for jason bay. out of all the braves' outfield prospects, i can most likely see jordan schafer playing in the majors next year. as for francouer, anyone who gave up on this kid should be ashamed of themselves. he is ONLY 24 YEARS OLD! he won a gold glove last year and demonstrated great power. every player goes through slumps he come around. as far as the braves' pitching concerned, yes they do need pitching and yes i do see ian kennedy coming over in some sort of trade because even if he is only as good as a #3 starter, thats all the braves need. with the money they are saving by letting tex go they are likely to get cc sabathia or ben sheets during the off season along with adam dunn who is way cheaper than tex to play first base next year so if i had to guess id say the braves will look like this next year... LF-Jason Bay CF- Jordan Schafer RF- Jeff Francouer and the pitching rotation will look somethimg like this...
1. Tim Hudsen
2. Jair Jurgens
3. CC Sabathia or Ben Sheets
4. Ian Kennedy
5. Jorge Campillo or Jo Jo Reyes or maybe even Tom Glavine

Dude the Braves may have the money to spend on the Free Agents but man what kind of player wants to play in atlanta???
Money isnt everything look at NHL Sundin would rather play for a team with a chance at a cup 7.5m a year then a team that sucks who offered 2 years 10m EACH YEAR
