Dodgers Target List Might be Growing

The list of relievers the Dodgers are scouting (Francisco Cordero, David Weathers, Arthur Rhodes of Cincinnati and George Sherrill of Baltimore), as reported here Monday, also includes Pittsburgh’s John Grabow and Matt Capps, according to the Los Angeles Times. For all the noise about the Dodgers’ pursuit of Toronto ace Roy Halladay, which is true, they are equally focused on bostering their bullpen. Ned Colletti is the worst GM in baseball . He has made one stupid move after another and has repeatedly tried to bury the good young players who are now the key to the Dodgers success . Getting Manny was just a case of selling his soul to the devil .It would really be a shame to see the Dodgers succeed and have Colletti get rewarded for his incompetence .

Barster you apparently no nothing about Dodger baseball. Ned has done nothing but improve this team since they signed him. His signing of Manny not only got thiem into the post season in 08, they won their first postseason series since 1988, he has also brought excitement back to dodger stadium..Oh and I guess the Torre signing was a mistake also…you obviously must be a jelouse Giants fan

My bad barster this was ment for sisyphusyny..What kind of tag is that anyway sisyphusny…sissy and phus..that explains itself

Anyone who thinks that the Dodgers couldn’t use another arm in their rotation is crazy. They need at least one more reliable arm to take pressure of of the bulpen. If they were to get a good pitcher in a trade without having to give up a player or players who have gotten them where they are now, that would make them the favorites, at leat in the national league.

A) sisyphusny… I keep hearing from people how bad Colletti is, but unfortunately, Giants fan, Agent Ned has done a decent job for us. While obviously he will be judged most by the signings of Schmidt, Jones, Pierre, and of course Manny, he has built the team well! I am not one of the haters on Pierre! Look how well he has performed this year!
B) We cannot trade away any starters just to bolster our pitching. I agree that we need another good starter, if not 2. Schmidt show a so-so performance during his return. Now, I live in Albuquerque and have went to about 20 Isotopes games this year. There is some talent down here that we can use as trade bait! DeWitt, Hu, Repko, etc. But what can we get for them?

I was never a fan of Colletti in the beginning. As of last year though I have changed my tune on his performance. I think that he has really brought the Dodgers back to the brink of a championship team. But I have to say, World Series titles do not come very easily. I remember watching the ’88 Dodgers and feeling like things would always be great for the Dodgers. And we have had quite a few seasons of disappointment since. Now, here is our chance. This is really a team that could win it all. Having said that, I have to say that I don’t believe that they can win it all with the present pitching staff. Yes it’s good. But titles are won with a true ace on the staff. I understand some will say to never trade away the farm, but you have to ask yourself if the current players they have ‘on the farm’ will win it all in the years to come; none of us can answer that of course. And we can’t answer whether Halladay would help us win it all this year. But ask yourself this: Will he hurt the Dodgers chances this year? No. With him the Dodgers win it all. My opinion of course, but I honestly believe that. Don’t give it all away, but give enough to get Halladay.

IMO, Haladay turns a GOOD team into a GREAT team and makes sense if we can get him without giving away the main players we have now. Letting Kershaw or Bills go to get Haliday makes absolutely no sense because you have have created one hole to fill another. I can see giving prospects or even someone like Kuroda or Wolf but not Kershaw or Bills.Let’s package a few of the prospects in Albuquerque such as Hu, Repko, Elbert, etc and see what shakes out!

Hey mrvica, I totally agree. I didn’t mean to trade Kershaw or Billingsly at all so thanks for clarifying that one. Or any of the key players they have on the roster right now. Imagine a rotation that includes Billingsly, Kershaw, and Halladay or Lee (Indians). Thus becomes a rotation that NO TEAM in baseball would want to face. And of course closing it all up with Broxton. Whew! But ‘prospects’ are only that right now, ‘prospects’. Don’t give it all away. We don’t want to look down another 20 years waiting for another re-building of the organization to have a chance at another shot of course. But a Dodger parade would make sense right now while the window of opportunity is wide open. Make the trade. Have a parade…

Halladay will only be traded if a team is willing to overpay, according to Toronto’s GM. You know, like the Yankees did for Sabathia who is 10-6, ERA 3.67. Nice numbers but not what you would expect for $160 million. The Dodgers would be much smarter to get a player like Edwin Jackson back, or the Ray’s Jeff Nieman(9-5, 3.81). Toronto wants premium talent for Doc, meaning the Dodgers are going to have to give up Kershaw, Elbert, Dee Gordon, Andrew Lambo, and more. That is too much for a pitcher. While Doc has been reliable in the past, there is no guarantee that he won’t breakdown. And, his salary demands past 2010 are going to rival Sabathia, so the Dodgers will lose him to free agency. I would rather that the Dodgers stand pat and give Eric Stults more starts. With Kuo back in the pen, Belisario almost ready, and Elbert on deck, the bullpen will be fine. Mota has been unhittable for the last 16 games. Maybe this team won’t win the WS, but it is still my team. I don’t like the approach of gathering the best players, whatever the cost, in an attempt to win(like the Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox). I like rooting for a team that may obtain a missing part(Manny or Furcal), but is basically home-grown. Mercenaries are no fun to root for, even if they add to the win totals. So, I am OK with a couple of them as long as the home-grown talent outnumbers them and sticks around long enough for me to care.

Will the Phillies getting Lee today and Pedro earlier its obivious that they are serious about winning The World Series again this year. I have no issues with Coletti. I have been a fan for over 25 years and I want to see movement. I agree with everyone and their mother, The Dodgers should not give up any current starters (position or starting pitching.) The Dodgers Farms system is loaded. Sell the farm on prospects for Halladay. They would have him for 1 1/2 seasons and he is an Ace in a tougher league. Cost is probably the issue. McCourt not willing to pony up the $$ which is essentially whatever us the fans pay him. The Dodgers will draw 4 Million in attendance and several more million off Manny, concessions because the team is winning. The Dodger made a $162 million in profits and should consider making a push for the World Series this year by getting Halladay.

dodgers better start playing ball! They seem to have lost their drive, making bad plays, missing flyballs, lack of pitching, and their offence has a bad smell to it. Iam a n avid Dodgers fan, and I sure would hate to see them lose it all as the post season gets close
